As Finnish police reported, on Monday, 29th of May, fraudsters, in the guise of policemen, asked the tourists to show cash with the reasoning that they were looking for distributors of counterfeit money. That happened at the Senate Square in Helsinki.
When one of the guests of the Finnish capital asked law enforcement officers to show the badge, the attackers simply ignored this demand. False policemen turned money back, but the tourist missed 500 EUR and 300 USD.
Chief Inspector of the Helsinki Police Markku Silen said that this scheme is used by intruders not for the first time. Most often, they choose visitors from distant countries, as victims, who hardly know the nuances of Finnish legislation.
This year, already 200 incidents related to the false police has been recorded.
