From 19th of June several dozen of new suburban trains will appear in the metropolitan region of Finland. The color of the electric trains will be changed from green to purple.
It is planned that by autumn 81 new trains of the Swiss company Stadler Rail will run in the capital region. The first few train sets of this type (Sm-5, or FLIRT - Fast Light Innovative Regional Train) started to run in the capital in 2009.
The train, which can reach speed up to 160 km/h, consists of four low-floor wagons, including a wagon for disabled people, bicyclists and moms with baby carriage. The capacity of FLIRT is 232 seats and 323 standing places. In addition, the new railway transport is more energy efficient - 6 kW/km.
At the same time, ticket sales directly on the trains will be stopped.
