From 19th of June, Helsinki suburban trains will allow to transport a bicycle at any time of the day for free. Helsinki transport agency HSL and the railway company VR decided to conduct an experiment and allow passengers to travel with their two-wheeled friends in suburban trains and in the subway. In this case, it is important only to observe one condition - there must be enough space for this in a wagon.
New trains will be launched on 19th of June, in the capital, which will include a multi-functional wagon for cyclists, people on wheelchairs and moms with baby carriages. It differs from others by larger doors.
Earlier bicycles were forbidden to be transported during peak hours in the morning and evening. If the experiment is a success, the city authorities will leave the innovation in operation.
By the autumn, 81 new Sm5 (or Flirt) electric trains will run on the railways of the capital region.
