Policemen and officials are going to support representatives of non-traditional sexual orientation by their participation in the Helsinki gay parade.
This summer, the Finnish police in uniform will take part in the gay parade in Helsinki for the first time. The procession will be held on 1st of July within the vent Helsinki Pride. The police will ride on a vehicle provided by the Inequality Department, and after the parade they will be at the information posts along with the officials.
"We are concerned about the problem of hate crimes that affect sexual minorities," - said Mans Enqvist, a representative of the Finnish Police Department.
The police announced that its employees in uniform will drive at the gay parade in a truck as participants at the invitation of the Commissioner for Equality.
It is emphasized that law enforcement officers will be on duty, and those who are going to participate in the Helsinki Pride during their free time are not allowed to wear uniform.
According to the law enforcement authorities, their participation in the gay parade will be aimed at the prevention of crimes against homosexuals.
It should be reminded, that last year in Helsinki, there was a big scandal because the sergeant walked in a column at the gay parade in military uniform. After this, the Defense Forces of the republic changed the military regulations, registering there a ban on wearing uniforms during demonstrations and rallies.
Week of events Helsinki Pride will be held from 26th of June to 2nd of July.
