Espoo pizzeria destroyed in suspected petrol bomb attack

A fire ignited by a petrol bomb completely destroyed a pizzeria in Leppävaara, Espoo, on the evening of 25 June, 2017.

Two men are suspected of throwing a petrol bomb into a restaurant in Espoo on Sunday, reports Helsingin Sanomat - writes  helsingfors.

The ensuing fire completely destroyed the restaurant, Pizza Paradise, on Lintuvaarantie in Leppävaara, and forced the customers and staff members who were inside the restaurant at the time of the attack to vacate the premises.

No one was injured in what the criminal investigators have described as an explosive fire.

“It’s our preliminary assumption that a petrol bomb was thrown,” Teemu Värtinen, the detective inspector in charge of the pre-trial investigation, said to Helsingin Sanomat on Monday.

The responding police officers brought the two suspects, one of whom is believed to have thrown the petrol bomb, into custody close to the scene of the fire, according to a press release from the Western Uusimaa Police Department. The men are tentatively suspected of aggravated criminal mischief, but their motives remain unknown at this stage of the pre-trial investigation.

The press release also indicates that a second petrol bomb was discovered inside the adjacent restaurant, Spice Garden, but the bomb did not cause as much damage as the fire did not spread beyond the entry hall.

Helsingin Sanomat reveals that both of the restaurants are owned by Mohammed Mobin. Mobin on Sunday told the daily that the suspects had paid a visit to the restaurant and made threats before the petrol bomb attack.
