The Union of International Associations (UIA) has published the annual ranking of the most popular cities for business events and congresses. According to it, Helsinki is the most popular city for business tourism in the Scandinavian region.
According to the UIA data, in 2016, the Finnish capital hosted 286 international meetings, which were attended by almost 61 thousand people. Conducting business events brought Helsinki almost 115 million euros income. On average, one business tourist spends 1,750 euros, which is 5 times more than the expenses of an ordinary traveler.
According to the Helsinki Convention Bureau, the Finnish capital is the most popular congress city in the northern region and the tenth in Europe. For comparison: Stockholm is on the 16th place, Copenhagen - on the 18th place in Europe. In general, UIA statistics cover the congress activities of 1459 cities around the world. In the global ranking for 2016, Helsinki is the 15th (in 2015 - the 24th).
In total, 651 international business events took place last year in Finland, the total number of participants exceeded 100 thousand people. In addition to Helsinki, congresses and conferences were also held in Tampere, Turku, Espoo, Jyvaskyla and Oulu.
